New Orleans: Laissez les bon temps rouler!
October 29, 2020
We frequently find ourselves with projects that not just push but completely blow through the envelope of “normal” printing. Such was the case of this amazing work by photographers Arnold Zann and Margo Taussig Pinkerton of Barefoot Contessa Fine Art Photography.
The photos in their book, New Orleans, are as dynamic, glowing and vibrant as the city they clearly love. The vivid – and often neon – colors went waaay out of the cmyk gamut. And, their black-and-white images command boldness with rich supportive blacks.
The initial press proof of cmyk left us bored and with room to push boundaries. We added a special violet, a custom mixed green, and then built a skeletal black in the color separations to yield a 7-color process job finished with a spot gloss varnish.
The result when printed on a fine matte paper? Perfection – a term we don’t play with. See this book. Pictures or video don’t cut it. You have to hold and experience it yourself.
